New Works by Lorna Crane

Friday November 25th to Monday December 12th 2005

The inspiration for this new body of work has been directly influenced by Lorna's surroundings and the rural landscape of the Far South Coast of NSW. From her studio she sees the vista of the Pambula dairy flat and is in constant awe of the beauty of this space, it’s simplicity and beauty. In nearby Merimbula she is fascinated by the vista of the lake, the lay of the land with fishing vessels and planes flying overhead.

These mixed media works on canvas and board are attempting to convey a feeling of being bounded by pastures, sea and sky. The surfaces have a unique richness in texture by building surfaces using local sand, weathered patina effects and further enhanced through the techniques of collage and the build up of textured surfaces using acrylic paint.

This show reveals intimate glimpses into a landscape that is layered both physically and metaphorically through personal memories and a sense of place.
